Fit Guide
The No. 1 is a western boot built on a single last. There is one width, so length and instep do all the work — this is how to land it first time.
How it should feel
-
Snug across the instep
A western boot has no laces. The instep is the only thing holding your foot in place, so it should feel firm as you pull the boot on and settle once it's on. That resistance is the fit working.
-
A little heel slip is correct
Expect roughly a quarter to a half inch of lift at the heel when they're new. It's normal in a welted boot and it goes away as the sole flexes to your stride. A boot with no heel slip out of the box is usually too small.
-
Room at the toe, not at the ball
Your toes shouldn't touch the end. The ball of your foot should sit at the widest part of the boot. If it sits behind that point, size down. If your toes are against the snip, size up.
-
Break-in, not battle
Calfskin relaxes and takes the shape of your foot over the first several wears. It will not gain width. If a boot hurts on day one it's the wrong size — send it back rather than waiting it out.
Size chart
Measure your foot at the end of the day, standing, in the socks you plan to wear.

Between sizes
If you fall between two sizes, take the smaller one — the leather gives, the last does not.
If you have a high instep or a wide foot, email us before you order and we'll talk it through. With one width available, that conversation is worth having up front rather than after a return.
